I’m stoked to share some information with you in this week’s post about a new streaming platform that you NEED to start releasing your music to: YouTube Music! YouTube holds a special place in my heart, and I’m really looking forward to seeing how I can utilize this new avenue to share my music.
What is YouTube Music?
YouTube Music is a streaming service, similar to Spotify, and totally separate from their video platform. You can listen to songs or watch music videos via a desktop or mobile app. Their Premium streaming service costs $9.99 a month, just like Spotify.
What makes YouTube Music different from YouTube videos?
Unlike YouTube videos, YouTube music doesn’t have minimum subscriber or view requirements for you to start monetizing your songs. You get paid per play just like other streaming service regardless of whether you’re a YouTube partner or not.
Why should I release my music on yet ANOTHER platform?
The real question is, why not?! Using your distribution platform (I use Soundrop) you can schedule your upcoming releases to be distributed to YouTube music, providing you with endless revenue streaming opportunity.
You probably have a favorite way to listen to and discover music, but not everyone shares your opinion. Releasing your music on as many platforms as possible allows for people all over the world who favor each particular platform to discover YOU and share YOUR music!
How do I get an official artist channel through YouTube Music?
To qualify for an official artist channel on YouTube Music, you have to have three songs delivered through a distributor. To ensure that your official artist channel will link up with your current YouTube channel, make sure your music videos are listed in the “music” category.
I’d encourage you to do more research if this is something you’re interested in! Choosing to evolve as an artist, even in something as simple as where you distribute your music, will give you the best chance at longevity and exposure.
