It’s that blessed time of year….
As temperatures drop outside, I naturally spend more time inside reading, baking, and getting our home organized.
I thought it would be fun to share some of my very favorite swoon worthy clean romance novels with you!
I’m pretty picky when it comes to books – if I don’t love it right from the start, I usually just set it aside and move right along. I’ve read a TON of romance novels, but these are the books that hooked me in from the first chapter and that I genuinely love. I plan to keep adding to this post as I discover more favorites!
Turning pages with a sleeping baby in your arms is impossible – I find it way easier to read books on the Kindle app these days! I also love being able to download samples of books before checking them out at the library or buying them on Kindle. You can get a good feel for the vibe of the book within a couple chapters before you commit to reading the whole thing so I’d highly recommend you do that with any of these books that sound interesting to you!
Clean Contemporary Romance:
Sarah Adams is one of the most hilarious contemporary romance authors I’ve discovered recently. I literally laugh out loud while reading her books! I have sent her first novel, The Match, to more people than I can count. I also love The Off Limits Rule. If Sarah’s wit and southern charm doesn’t get you hooked right off the bat, then her leading men certainly will. I feel comfortable recommending these books as clean, but bear in mind that some of them do have some closed door steam and mild language.
I started following indie author Summer Dowell after several of you recommended reaching out to her with self publishing questions! Her books are sweet and clean enough for the youngest of sisters or cousins to read. I particularly enjoyed If It’s Perfect – I love me a good wedding-baker-turned-bride trope!
Emma St. Clair is another author that I just can’t get enough of! I cried laughing reading Falling For Your Best Friend’s Twin (Her MC Abby is the quirkiest, craziest ever), and Falling For Your Fake Fiance. Both are such refreshing takes on some well loved tropes.
It’s hard to find clean and genuinely funny contemporary romance, so if you have any favorites I would LOVE your recommendations!

Clean Regency Era Romance:
Aside from the queen of romance herself, Jane Austin, finding good books in her same genre can be tricky. I’ll admit that I struggle to enjoy some of the more popular clean regency authors because they just write DULL BOOKS. There, I said it. I just don’t want to wait 256 pages for him to hold her hand, that’s all.
The following books feel classic and sweet, but also have witty dialogue and great characters!
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again…I love Henry from Julianne Donaldson’s Blackmoore. He is DREAMY. Edenbrooke is also cute and sweet, I’ve never met anyone who didn’t like it!
I love Kristi Ann Hunter‘s Hawthorne House series- especially A Noble Masquerade and An Inconvenient Beauty (Griffith was inspired by Chris Hemsworth. VEERRRRRY easy to picture while reading.) She is a Christian romance author so there are some faith themes entwined into the plot.
My Fair Gentleman is a reversal of the classic musical, My Fair Lady, with a noble woman hired to turn a wild seafaring man into a true gentleman. So cute!
I LOVED Carving For Miss Coventry by Deborah M. Hathaway. Such great chemistry and fun moments in this one!
Clean Historical Romance:
If you haven’t read The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society yet, it’s high time you did.
I love the letter format of the book, and also really enjoyed the movie even though the two are very different!

Clean Royal Romance:
Royally Rearranged by Emma St. Clair. A sweet royal romance that had me yearning for spring and craving strawberries. Oh, and falling HARD for our main guy Rafe, here. Watch out! If you enjoy royal romances, you’ll love this one!

Clean YA Romance:
Wildwood Dancing by Juliet Marillier is a romantic and clever retelling of The Twelve Dancing Princesses (I mean…DON’T LIE! I know that that Barbie movie is STILL one of your favorites!), and The Frog Prince. I’ve read it several times and it just keeps getting better.
Entwined by Heather Dixon is simply enchanting!
Clean Christmas Romance:
The Christmas Letters by Jenny Proctor is the sweetest holiday read. Puts you right in the romantic Christmas spirit!
As I mentioned, I will continue to add to this post as I discover new favorites. I would love any recommendations from you as well!
Happy reading!
